The Australian National University
The distinguishing culture of The Australian National University (ANU) is one where the notion of discovery pervades all that we do. ANU nurtures leading thinkers – and thinking leaders.
Since its inception in 1946, ANU has been building a legacy of inquiry and discovery of which the nation can be proud. Generations of researchers, educators and graduates at ANU have helped propel Australia to the forefront of international thinking in areas like humanities, science, the arts, medicine, law, economics and public policy. As a result, ANU is consistently ranked among the best universities in the world.
ANU is the only Australian member of the International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU), which includes ETH Zürich, National University of Singapore, Peking University, University of California Berkeley, University of Cambridge, University of Copenhagen, University of Oxford, the University of Tokyo and Yale University. IARU members are researching matters of global consequence, including ‘Movement of People’, ‘Longevity and Health’, ‘Energy, Resources and Environment’ and ‘Security’.
ANU has also recently founded new transdisciplinary centres to pursue further knowledge of issues of critical importance – the National Centre for Biosecurity and the Fenner School of Environment and Society – an approach that cuts across the traditional disciplinary divides.
But a University’s leadership credentials are also measured by the quality of its graduates. ANU students have gone on to be leaders in government, business, research and academia, making real contributions towards a sustainable future.
