Kevin Rudd
The Australian Davos Connection Future Summit 2008 is a great opportunity for Australians to come together to discuss the key challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for Australia.
Australia is facing complex challenges in a fast changing world - ranging from maintaining competitiveness in the global economy of the 21st century, to climate change, reshaping the Federation for our future needs, lifting the quality of education and reconciliation with Australia's indigenous people.
Governments alone do not have the resources to address all of the complex dimensions of these challenges. We need to call forth the talents and energies of the whole nation if we are to achieve our nation's potential. We need to foster better understanding, innovative thinking, and greater cooperation across the different sectors of Australian society.
The Future Summit brings together Australian leaders from all walks of life - government, business, academia and the wider community. It helps to foster policy debate and leadership development. It can make a very valuable contribution to Australia's future.
Coming just a few weeks after the Australia 2020 Summit in Canberra, I hope that this year's Future Summit 2008 can take the 2020 Summit outcomes forward and build upon them.
I encourage you to consider attending and participating in Future Summit 2008.
The Hon Kevin Rudd MP
Prime Minister of Australia
